Don’t be me…
I wasted a year from the end of 2017 to the end of 2018 being scared of wallets and thinking I had to be super “techie” in order to buy and store my bitcoin in cold storage wallets.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
This process literally should only take minutes, from start to finish.
Cost me some serious bitcoin 5+ years ago.
Let’s go through the simple steps to hitting bitcoin ONLY sites that can get you your first purchase to education and sent to your own wallet.
A simple strategy
Follow these in order to hit the best sites when it comes to customer service and education while complementing your bitcoin purchase.
Go to Swan - https://www.swanbitcoin.com or Strike - https://invite.strike.me/GIKIPR on the computer or in your app store to download. (My strike referral code is there so we each get $5 if you choose to go that route.)
Start an account or set up a payment method.
Put in your information. (KYC - know your customer)
Or go here to:
Bisq - https://bisq.network
PeachBitcon - https://peachbitcoin.com
BullBitcoin - https://www.bullbitcoin.com
HodlHodl - https://hodlhodl.com/?filters%5Bcurrency_code%5D=USD
peer to peer or mine it if you would like a more private solution where your information isn’t involved in your purchase.
Then once you purchase the bitcoin, send it immediately to cold storage. (Savings) You may have to let funds season in account for first transaction, just a heads up. Ask support for questions, they are very helpful. Will show further down how to SEND or RECEIVE in wallets.
Think of this like long term retirement savings just like you were taught to do with “cash” when you grew up.
Get a Jade from Blockstream https://store.blockstream.com/product/jade-hardware-wallet/ or
COLDCARD https://store.coinkite.com/store/coldcard.
Both great open source solutions.
Or you can put bitcoin in hot wallets (checking) to use daily.
You want to think of hot wallets like you would a wallet you carry on your body, or a purse. Only keep as much on as you are willing to part with because they are connected to the internet.
Download Muun Wallet - https://muun.com
Wallet of Sathoshi - https://www.walletofsatoshi.com
Blue Wallet - https://bluewallet.io
Phoenix Wallet - https://phoenix.acinq.co
Once you have bitcoin in either wallet you can hit “send or receive” to move bitcoin.
“Send” button will require you to “sign off” using your key (or control your device with a QR code or something in your control.)
Your private key/seed-phrase needs to be kept private as this key/seed-phrase used to sign off can be used to clear your wallet. (Like giving someone the password to your bank account.)
“Receive” button will just generate a new code to copy and paste or send anywhere. Or you can use a QR code you can put anywhere in order for someone to send you bitcoin.
This does not have to be private because it is only allowing someone to send you bitcoin.
Enjoy using bitcoin cheaply and instantaneously to “final settle” any transaction you need on the lighting network around the world in minutes.
For larger transactions you may want to stick with the first layer (on-chain) transactions.
Work is the ONLY answer
This is the simplest and easiest way to be voting with your wallet and telling the world you aren’t happy with the legacy system.
The larger the the system grows, the larger the network, the more valuable bitcoin becomes.
Remember, the reason that the legacy system is falling apart is that the money has been corrupted and detached from WORK.
Thus it has been detached from merit and reality.
Bitcoin aligns citizens around the globe of all socioeconomic groups no matter where you are because no single entity can control bitcoin and work MUST be done first before bitcoin can be attained.
Gone are the days where you could just “buddy up” to a politician and have the currency printed or typed in to a computer and sent to you to “paper over your mistakes.”
Which as we know just incentives worse and worse behavior where we all eventually lose because society slowly drifts towards the abyss.
Don’t outsmart yourself.
Just hold bitcoin like savings long term. Easier said than done.
HODL - Hold on for dear life.
Save assets instead of liabilities you THINK are assets.
Dollar cost average your bitcoin, meaning just save what you would have already but do it in the hardest asset known to man.
Don’t overthink and don’t trade and try to “time” the market.
